Starlight: Cabaret for $12, Student Price

Posted in Articles, Ryan, Reviews at 6:38 pm by Ryan

Over at Starlight Theater’s MySpace Blog you see an exciting deal: $12 for the opening weekend of Cabaret, as in the musical, which is an enourmous savings over the regular price. They also made the deal for a Friday night, when Starlight also does a cabaret night with a full bar after the show. I just want to make sure you understand that this is dinner and a show on a Friday night for only $12. This is for just the show, not dinner.
Show: Cabaret
Venue: Starlight Theater (corner of Edgewater Dr. and Par St., formerly the Mark II)
Show times: Fri Jan 5, 8:00 PM; Doors and dinner start at 6:00PM;
Tickets: $49, $45 Matinee, $12 Student (1/5/06 Only)
Call: 407-843-6275 - info and tickets

I saw Grease there earlier this year and it was a good experience. For some of the songs they had the two leads singing into wireless microphones, and the sound was really muddy. Other than that the show was lots of fun and performed well. The food was really good, this is a gourmet meal and I think the breakdown is about half for the ticket and half for the meal including salad, dessert and wine.

After the show on Fridays and Saturdays, they do the Moonlight Lounge out in the lobby, where the cast and I believe anyone who likes can sing cabaret and have a drink at the bar. Sundays they do a “Sunset” show at 6:30, and Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday have matinees at 1:00 PM at the reduced price.

Patroncast for 2007 in Orlando

Posted in Articles, Ryan, Video at 4:50 am by Ryan

Does Blogging Fringe get to post stuff to Patroncast? I guess so. What is Patroncast? Well our good friend Mark Baratelli has put together a little video to help us out. He even lets us know that Patroncast is now open for submissions. Look to get some updates and help on this very very soon.

See the original post on the Orlando Fringe MySpace Blog

Patroncast
What is it? Watch the two-minute video above to find out. Basically, patrons post videos praising or dissing shows they paid to see. It’s for patrons to express they joy or dissatisfaction and for other patrons to learn from. Word of mouth is the best way to choose a show to see at the Fringe, and this facilitates that same behavior online.

-Shows can use the patron’s positive reviews for their own advertising if they wish.

-Patrons can post audio-only, video and audio, whatever. They can use their real name or make upa fake one.

-Patrons can upload video from their phones or camcorders, or use youtube and their computer’s cam to film a video directly into youtube.

In a nutshell, I want patrons to feel like they can voice their opinions freely and share with other patrons an encouraging “Go see this show! it’s amazing!” or a wary “Stay away at all costs!”

-Mark

I’m so glad that Mark is ecnouraging user-sumitted content as an official representative of the Orlando Fringe this year. He is one of few people in Orlando who could pull this off.

Exclusive Announcement, Retraction

Posted in Articles, Ryan, Reviews, Video at 1:35 am by Ryan

Keeping exclusivity in mind, I won’t spoil it for you, but I will say this is something we discussed on our Fringe Thinktank Podcast that we never thought could happen.

I also want to make a formal retraction of some statements made a few weeks ago in relation to Mark Baratelli’s new online marketing efforts for the OIFTF07.

My current position is that the initiatives like FringeCast, Fringe Ads Channel, PatronCast, etc. are just what the Fringe needs from an official standpoint: enabling producers, patrons and organizers all three to share with each other and within groups as well. Hopefully in future months and years we will see throngs of people rushing to view and contribute to these channels, on MySpace, YouTube or otherwise. I think that if Mark wants to grab the attention of the older or just plain technophobic crowds he should provide email subscriptions and webpages that aren’t wrapped by teenage clich, but that is but one man’s opinion. I’m sure if you have a suggestion for Mark, he will gladly hear you out.

Reader Poll: Creative Summit

Posted in Articles, Ryan, Polls at 7:52 pm by Ryan

I’m sure it is a bit premature to even mention this, but I would like to hear the opinion of my blog readers.

Which sounds better/easier to remember and tell other people about?

  • FloridaCreatives.com
  • FloridaCreativeSummit.com

Voting is easy: leave a comment on the post at BloggingFringe.com or email (info [at] bloggingfringe dot com).

Somehow I don’t think I need to explain what the purpose of this site is. Possibly, both sites could have different purposes, but I just have one goal I want to accomplish right now, and that is to get people from different disciplines and different parts of the state in the same room and start a discussion.

I would like the gathering to follow the format of an Unconference, which has a different modus operandi than a traditional conference or a festival. All of the arts in Florida have plenty of festivals, now it is time to get intellectual and (dare I say it) convergent.
